Scope and Content Ferry house, Otter Ferry, Argyll This group of buildings was probably built as an inn and ferrymens' cottages to serve the ferry across Loch Fyne which operated from a pier at this point. The large flat area in front may have been used for mustering cattle, or perhaps for herring curing. This view shows the buildings from the west, looking from the pier. The two-storey building was probably the inn, and what was a single cottage in 1979 may have been two when built. The building to the left was probably a stabble. These facilities probably also served ferries taking passengers and goods to and from steamers serving Inveraray, until a nearby steamer pier was constructed in 1900.
