Scope and Content Dalmarnock Bridge, Glasgow This bridge was built to replace a narrow masonry bridge over the Clyde where it formed the boundary between the city of Glasgow and the burgh of Rutherglen. It is a five -span steel girder bridge. with cast-iron Gothic decoration. This view shows a detail of the decorative cast iron work applied to the outer faces of the main girders. The utilitarian riveted plate girder can be seen behind and below the refined quatrefoil panels. This bridge was designed by Crouch and Hogg of Glasgow. Its construction was funded by Glasgow, Rutherglen and 'the counties of the Lower and Upper Wards of Lanarkshire', a fact commemorated by a plaque on the structure.
