Scope and Content Door in library, Keithick House, Perth & Kinross This shows a secret door which is constructed in exactly the same style as all the other wooden bookcases in the dining room. The door has a latch which can be caught on a hook on the door margin. The bookcases which have been set into the walls have cupboards below dado level and shelves with wood and mesh doors above. The library was one of the main public reception and entertaining rooms which were located on the ground floor. Other public rooms included the drawing room and dining room. In 1911 this room was decorated in a style which harked back to Victorian times and had a wooden chimneypiece with a tiled grate. Paintings were hung from the picture rail above the bookcases and attached to the chimneypiece was a beaded and woolwork fire screen. Keithick House was designed by David Whyte and built for W E Collinswood between 1818 and 1823. David Bryce (1803-76) changed the porch and offices in 1839, and Maclaren, Soutar & Salmond made further alterations in 1926. Morant painted an Adam Revival decorative scheme in the drawing room.
