Scope and Content Lower Dens Mill, Dundee, Angus This flax-spinning mill was built by Baxter Brothers, and became part of one of the largest linen complexes in the world, supplying yarn to be woven and finished in the Upper Dens Factory, immediately to the north. This view shows the main Lower Dens Mill from a lane running along the west side of Upper Dens Factory. Note the campanile, which housed the works bell, used to call the workers to the mill. The Dens complex, by that time in the ownership of Low and Bonar, was closed in 1978. Subsequently the 1850 Upper Dens Factory was converted into housing, and the Lower Dens Mill housed a range of small businesses. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
