Scope and Content Aerial view of Duddingston House and its parkland, now Duddingston Golf Course, Duddingston, Edinburgh Duddingston House, the former manor house of Duddingston Village, has been described as one of the finest 18th-century houses in Britain. It was designed by Sir William Chambers for the 8th Earl of Abercorn, and completed in 1768. The house (far left) stands in extensive parkland which was landscaped and laid out as pleasure grounds by James Robertson c.1768. Most of the park now survives as Duddingston Golf Course. In 1745, the Earl of Abercorn bought the lands of Easter and Wester Duddingston on which he built, in 1768, a house within easy reach of Edinburgh. A large park of about 200 acres surrounding the house was fenced off for pleasure grounds. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
