Scope and Content The tower of Duddingston Parish Church, Old Church Lane, Duddingston Village, Edinburgh Duddingston Church, one of the oldest churches in Scotland still in regular use, was built on land gifted by King David I to the Abbot of Kelso in 1130. The basic structure of the church is Romanesque with 17th- and 18th-century additions. The prominent stocky church tower, with its distinctive parapet of pointed stones, was added to the church in the 17th century. The Gothic windows are an 18th-century addition. The original lancet windows, slender pointed-arched windows, in the nave of the church have been blocked up, and Gothic windows were added in the 18th century. The church has now stained glass windows, inserted in the early 20th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
