Scope and Content Footbridge, Crossford, Lanarkshire This is a most unusual bridge, over the river Clyde. It has five spans, two long central ones over the river, and short accommodation ones at each side, two on the south and one on the north. The spans are supported on concrete piers, and also suspended. This view shows the deck of the bridge from the south end, illustrating clearly the detail of the metalwork of the bridge. A determined attempt has been made to make this an elegant as well as a sound structure. The metal sections of which this bridge is built are very light, and also well-preserved, suggesting that they may be made of malleable iron rather than mild steel. The suspension cables are made of rods, which also suggests wrought iron construction. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
