Scope and Content The billiard room, No 25 Learmonth Terrace, Queensferry Road, Dean, Edinburgh No 25 Learmonth Terrace, built in 1891-3 by James Simpson of Leith for the wine-merchant, Arthur Sanderson, was an elaborate version of John Chesser's basic theme for the rest of the terrace. The interior was the most sumptuous in Edinburgh. On the third floor is the billiard room, described as 'Neo-Elizabethan'. It is lined and has a ceiling in oak, with a richly decorated three-arched screen, and a detailed chimneypiece at each end. No 25 was the end house of the final west section of the terrace, and was described as a house 'so grandiose that no one could hope to follow it'. The interior, possibly the most expensive in the city, was decorated by William Scott Morton in 1893. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
