Scope and Content The drawing room, No 25 Learmonth Terrace, Queensferrry Road, Dean, Edinburgh Learmonth Terrace, on the north side of Queensferry Road, was designed by John Chesser for Colonel Learmonth in 1873 as part of a new housing development to be built on the Dean estate. It is the only part of the scheme to bear the family name. The L-shaped 'Adam style' drawing room on the first floor has an elaborate ceiling with a circle worked in above the bow-window. The alabaster fireplace bears carved female figures on each side, and encloses an iron grate with brass sphinxes. The house was built for the wine-merchant, Arthur Sanderson in 1891-3. The interior, decorated by William Scott Morton in 1893, was regarded as the most sumptuous in Edinburgh, and probably the most expensive. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
