Scope and Content Wood storage shed, Sunbury Works, Sunbury, Belford Road, Dean, Edinburgh Sunbury, once a largely industrial area, is a small neighbourhood of mews buildings lying on flat alluvial land between the Water of Leith and Belford Road. It takes its name from Sunbury House and the associated distillery which once stood on this site. This contemporary wood storage shed, which stands near the river, was built for Whytock & Reid's cabinet factory at Sunbury Works. It has openwork timber sides and a pantiled roof. The area next to the river is a 'haugh' or flat alluvial piece of land which formed part of the floor of the river valley. This was where the old Sunbury House, shown on a map of 1852, and James Haig's Sunbury Distillery, mentioned in 1817, stood. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
