Scope and Content Long Row, New Lanark, Lanarkshire Long Row is, as the name suggests, the longest row of workers' houses in New Lanark. It is, like the other blocks, built into the side of the Clyde Gorge, and is of two storeys on the upper side, with a sunk storey on the lower. This view was taken during the refurbishment of the row, with the houses at the far end re-roofed, and their chimney stacks restored to their original masonry construction. The nearest stack shows the brick introduced in the early 20th century. The external repair of this row was undertaken by the New Lanark Conservation Trust, using workers drawn from the ranks of the unemployed under the Community Programme of the Manpower Services Commission.
