Scope and Content Former railway station, Haddington, East Lothian This station was the terminus of a branch from Longniddry on the North British Railway's main line from Edinburgh to Berwick. It was designed to serve the county town of East Lothian. The station was on an elevated site at the west end of the town. This view shows the buildings in the goods yard. To the right is the wooden goods shed, and to the left a long covered loading bay, possibly for cattle. Beyond the goods shed is a concrete store, probably installed in the 1930s. Passenger traffic on this branch did not long survive omnibus competition, though goods traffic continued into the 1960s. By 1978 the station was completely disused, and the site has since been redeveloped. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
