Scope and Content Former railway station, Haddington, East Lothian This station was the terminus of a branch from Longniddry on the North British Railway's main line from Edinburgh to Berwick. It was designed to serve the county town of East Lothian. The station was on an elevated site at the west end of the town. This view shows the single passenger platform of the station, with the station house of 1846 on the left. The single-storey rendered brick waiting room probably dated from about 1900. In the foreground is the pivot-post for a goods crane. Passenger traffic on this branch did not long survive omnibus competition, though goods traffic continued into the 1960s. By 1978 the station was completely disused, and the site has since been re-developed. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
