Description Longmorn Distillery View from ESE showing S front of cenral bonded store

Date 20/9/1977

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 519607

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Longmorn-Glenlivet Distillery, Morayshire This large distillery was built at the beginning of the whisky boom of the 1890s by the Longmorn-Glenlivet Distillery Co. In 1898 it amalgamated with the nearby newly-built Benriach-Glenlivet Distillery, which however closed in 1900. This view shows a range of four bays of maturing warehouses, typical of many built in the 1890s. The alternate slating of the roof gave a degree of ventilation. Longmorn was built with four stills, and was one of the largest of the 1890s distilleries. It was extended in 1972 and 1978. Since 1970 it has been owned by Glenlivet Distilleries Ltd, now a subsidiary of the Seagram Co Ltd of Canada. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
