Scope and Content Waterwheel-driven pump, Keir Estate, near Dunblane, Perthshire This was a small waterwheel-driven pump, of a type popular in rural areas in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, at the same time as windpumps were being installed in significant numbers. This one was still working in 1977. This view shows the tiny overshot waterwheel with the central disc crank driving a 'banjo' pump on a cast iron stand. The rusting corrugated-iron sheet is to prevent splashing from the waterwheel. This installation was made by W Dickie and Sons, Victoria Works, East Kilbride, who also specialised in making wind pumps or windpumps. The equipment was housed in a small rectangular rendered house with a gabled-hipped roof. A Dickie pump will be erected at the National Museums Scotland Museum of Rural Life in March 2007.
