Scope and Content Largo Viaduct, Lower Largo, Fife This is a four-span viaduct over the valley of the river, built by the West Fife Railway. It has large semicircular arches, only one of which is over the river. It carried a single track, and is a notable feature of the village of Lower Largo. This view shows the viaduct from the north east. It is well-built of sandstone, but very slender. The railway over it closed in 1965. The West Fife Railway was one of the 'cheap railways' the construction of which was a feature of the 1850s, when railway capital was short after the Railway Mania of the 1840s. This viaduct has been preserved by a local trust. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
