Scope and Content Burntisland Harbour, Fife This harbour had an older core, but was completely remodelled between 1876 and 1902, for coal shipment. In its final form its main features were a large wet dock, completed 1902, and a tidal basin, on the west side of which was a shipbuilding yard. This view shows the tidal basin from the north, with the site of the former shipyard on the right, adapted to build accommodation modules for North Sea oil platforms, one of which is seen here on the barge which will move it to its platform. The cranes in the left background are on the north quay of the wet dock, and are now used for discharging bauxite (aluminium ore) from barges to which it is trans-shipped from bulk carriers to large to enter the port.
