Description Aberfeldy Distillery View of maltings

Date 1977

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 511501

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Aberfeldy Distillery, Perthshire This distillery was built by John Dewar and Sons Ltd, whisky blenders, Perth, to replace their small Tulliemet Distillery. It was a classic malt whisky distillery of the 1890s boom. Dewars became part of The Distillers' Co Ltd in 1925. This view shows the former maltings with pagoda-roofed kiln, to the left, and the malt deposit, malt mill and mash house to the right. These are all parts of the original complex, though in 1972-3 a by-product recovery plant was put in the maltings. This distillery was one of several sold in 1997by United Distillers and Vintners, successors to The Distillers' Company, to John Dewar and Sons Ltd, by then a subsidiary of the Bacardi Corporation.
