Scope and Content Dredger, Muirtown Locks, Caledonian Canal. Inverness, Inverness-shire This wharf at the bottom of the Muirtown flight of locks was used for many years to berth vessels used in the maintenance of the canal, including the dredger and the lock-gate lifter. This view shows the dredger 'Fairplay' at the wharf This was a steam grab dredger. On either side are the frames of old lock gates, left there after replacement, and in the background is Glen Mhor Distillery. The dredger was still operable in 1977, but has since fallen out of use, and is decaying. It is, however still in existence. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
