Scope and Content Holyrood Brewery, Holyrood Road, Edinburgh This was a very large brewery, founded in the 18th century, and enlarged and adapted many times. It had very little presence to the public roads, being hidden behind tenements and other buildings. It was latterly owned by Scottish and Newcastle Breweries. This view shows what was probably a brewhouse, with a castellated frontage to Holyrood Road. It was dated 1872. The lower building to the right was built in 1931 to designs by JA McWilliam. The brewery closed in the late 1980s and the site has been redeveloped. The façade of the 1931 building has been retained, a has the shell of another block in the centre off the complex.
