Scope and Content Counting house, New Lanark, Lanarkshire This two-bay block with its bowed end appears to have been added to the end of the existing Caithness Row by Robert Owen and his partners in about 1810. It was built as the mill office, but also let Owen and his staff monitor movements in the village. This view shows the building from the north west, with part of Caithness Row on the right. The upper two rows of windows light the single circular room which was used as the counting house. This building and the houses in Caithness Row were the first in New Lanark to be refurbished by the New Lanark Association, in 1966-8, and the counting house was the first office of the New Lanark Conservation Trust.
