Scope and Content Upper Mill, Barry, Angus This was a water-powered corn mill, rebuilt in the late 19th century. It is on an L-plan, with a D-plan kiln. It has two pairs of stones, and is driven by an overshot waterwheel 0.96 by 4.77m in a lean-to wheelhouse. This view shows the mill from the north east, with the D-plan kiln on the end of the milling range. Note the tiny swivelling ventilator. The miller's house is in the right background. This mill was still in commercial use in 1976, making oatmeal. It has since been taken over by the National Trust for Scotland, and adapted to receive visitors. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
