Scope and Content Wooden bridge, Broomhill, Inverness-shire This is a large wooden road bridge across the river Spey. It has 15 spans, eight of them over the river, and the rest flood spans, as the Spey floods frequently. The bridge was designed by John A Mackenzie. This view shows the bridge from the north west showing the construction of most of the spans, with trestles supporting two tiers of beams. which in turn support the deck. This is the finest bridge of its type in Scotland. Others at Boat of Garten and Boat of Insh were not so refined in design or construction, and the former has been demolished. The Broomhill bridge was overhauled c1990. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
