Scope and Content Hydro-electric power station, Garlogie, Aberdeenshire Dunecht estate was acquired in the early 20th century by Viscount Cowdray, who had made a fortune in civil engineering contracting. He set about making extensive improvements to the estate including the construction of this station. This view shows the generating set in the station. The generator was made by the English Electric Co, and the water turbine which drove it, seen in the background, was built by Brown Boverie, a Swiss firm. This power station, which ran on water from the Loch of Skene, operated until a public electricity supply came to the area in the post World War II period. It is now part of a small museum with the adjacent steam beam engine. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
