Scope and Content Kinnaird Head Lighthouse, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire This lighthouse was established by the Northern Lighthouse Board and originally consisted of a short tower on top of an existing tower house. In the late 1820s it was reconstructed, with a new tower within the walls of the tower house. This view shows the lighthouse from the south west, with the top of the tower projecting above the wall walk of the tower house The present lantern dates from c1900. To the right is the flat-roofed engine-house for the foghorn, built c1904. Kinnaird Head was one of the first lights established by the Board, It is the only lighthouse in Scotland to be preserved as it was before automation, and is now part of Scotland's Lighthouse Museum. All the other Board lights have now been automated. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
