Scope and Content Rossdhu Castle The area of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park contains a rich variety of archaeological sites and historic landscapes, which continue to have a major impact on the environment today. Rossdhu Castle was built in the 15th century and remained the seat of the Colquhouns of Luss until the 1770s, when Rossdhu House was built next to it. Much of the old castle was dismantled and its stone reused in the new house. Rossdhu was one of many castles built during the medieval period in the Loch Lomond area. As the need for defence subsided by the late 18th century, many of these were abandoned for more substantial mansions. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
