Scope and Content Reinforced-concrete bridge, Denhead, Logie Buchan, Aberdeenshire This elegant bridge was built over the river Ythan to replace a ferry, the rubble piers of which still survive. The river was navigable upstream as far as Waterton until c1920, which accounts for the survival of the ferry at this point. This view shows the bridge from the south. It is constructed on the beam and post principle, but the curved central span and inclined approaches give it a lightness of appearance unusual in a bridge of this type. The bridge is on a minor road, and is one of a number of innovative reinforced-concrete road bridges built by Aberdeenshire County Council in the inter-war period.
