Scope and Content Central block, Nos 62-66 Great King Street, Edinburgh Great King Street, designed by Robert Reid in 1804 as the grand central avenue of the northern New Town, links Royal Circus and Drummond Place which enclose it at either end. Feuing began in 1812, and was completed 1814-23. The central block of this terrace, one of four identical terraces in the street, has four Ionic pilasters running between the first and second floors, flanking pairs of pilasters at each end, and an elegant semicircular central window on the attic floor. In Robert Reid's original design for the terrace, each central block contained two double main door flats, with a door to a common stair leading to single flats above. This design was repeated in the end pavilions. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
