Description Poldullie Bridge View from SW showing SW front

Date 8/6/1976

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 501609

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Poldullie Bridge, Aberdeenshire This bridge was built in 1715 by John Forbes of Inverernan. It has a single semicircular rubble arch and a pronounced hump. This view shows the bridge from the south. The reflection shows how completely semicircular is the span - a rarity. This bridge is very similar in design and construction to many military road bridges, which may therefore have been representative of contemporary practice, rather than being innovative.
