Scope and Content 'Kennedy Well', Scourie Scourie is a small village on the west coast of Sutherland, which developed in the 19th century, probably initially as a fishing settlement. This view shows one of the water-dispensing points provided when piped water was introduced into the village. Several households would draw their water from this elaborate standpipe, which was operated by turning a knob, now removed, on the left. These devices were made in large numbers by Glenfield and Kennedy of Kilmarnock, hence the epithet 'Kennedy Well' often applied to them This one was disused in 1976, as the control knob has been removed.
