Scope and Content Aberfeldy Mill, Perthshire This is a water-powered corn mill, probably built by the Breadalbane Estate, and extended and altered, probably in the early 20th century. It was driven by an overshot waterwheel about 0.9 by 6.1m, but was not using grindstones by 1976. This view shows the maker's plate on one of the millstones removed from the mill when it was re-equipped, but preserved in front of the building. This stone was made of pieces of hard stone called French Burr, held together by an iron band and cemented. This mill was still in use in 1976 producing animal feeding-stuffs, in the ownership of McKerchar and McNaughton, a subsidiary of BOCM. It has since been reconverted to stone grinding and opened to visitors. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
