Scope and Content Old bridge, Invermoriston, Inverness-shire The history of this bridge is obscure. It is a two-span rubble structure, with the central pier founded on a rock in the middle of the river Moriston. A two-span clapper bridge at the west end provided access along the river bank and for flood relief. This view shows the bridge from the north. Illustrating the use of the rock in the middle of the river to support the central pier. The bridge was in a serious state of disrepair in 1976, having been bypassed in 1933. Since 1976 the bridge has been repaired and its parapets reinstated, as Invermoriston is a popular picnic spot on the Fort William-Inverness road, and the decaying bridge was a hazard to adventurous children.
