Scope and Content Achnasheen Station This station was opened in 1870 by the Dingwall and Skye Railway. It is one of the major intermediate stations on the line, with a passing loop and post-bus connections to the north west. This view shows the station from the west-bound platform side looking east. The main station buildings are out of sight to the left. Note the hotel on the platform, an unusual platform, and the post-bus ready to receive mail from an incoming train. This station retained in 1976 its original masonry-faced low platforms, and boxes were provided to assist passengers to board and to alight from trains. It also retained its wooden goods shed.
