Description Dundreggan Mill General View

Date 25/5/1976

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 495894

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Former water-powered corn mill, Dundreggan, Highland This was a water-powered corn mill on a rectangular plan, which had been powered by an overshot wheel about 1.37 by 3.66m. At the opposite end from the wheel there was the corn-drying kiln, with its firehole intact. This view shows the mill from the wheel end, with the rubble structure supporting the lade to the left. The kiln is to the right of the flat-arched cart entrance, itself an unusual feature. All the machinery and wooden parts of this mill had gone, but otherwise it was remarkably well-preserved.
