Dalmally Bridge General View

SC 495521

Description Dalmally Bridge General View

Date 25/5/1976

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 495521

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Dalmally Bridge, Glenorchy, Argyll and Bute This bridge over the river Orchy was built in 1780, and is a three-span rubble structure, with triangular cutwaters. This view shows the bridge from the south east. The low profile of the bridge and the flatness of its arches are unusual for the period. Though entirely devoid of ornament, this a bridge of singular grace, paying respect to its grand setting. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
