Scope and Content Former water-powered corn mill, Ardheslaig, Applecross This was a very small corn mill, without a kiln, driven by an overshot wheel about 0.66 by 3.7m, of which the axle only survived in 1976. It was masonry built, with a corrugated iron roof, and was used as a store. This view shows the axle of the wheel, with the hubs to which the spokes were bolted. The rubble structure behind the axle carried the lade which supplied water to the mill. Such tiny mills, of which there were a number in the north-west highlands, can only have served very small communities. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
