Scope and Content Former Portsoy Station, Banffshire This station was built when the Great North of Scotland Railway extended the Portsoy branch along the Moray coast in 1884, to serve the herring fishing ports of the area. This view shows the station from the north west. The timber construction was typical of most of the stations on the Moray Coast line, as was the concrete platform edging. The Moray Coast line was closed in 1965, but unlike many of the closures of that period most of the station buildings were retained. This one replaced a terminal station of 1859, which survived as a goods station until 1965. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
