Scope and Content Old railway station, Portsoy, Banffshire This station was built as the Portsoy terminus of the Banff, Portsoy and Strathisla Railway, which linked Banff and Portsoy with the Great North of Scotland Railway at Grange, near Keith. The line was extended along the coast in 1884. This view shows the station from the south west, with a good platform in the foreground and the passenger train shed behind. The station offices are on the left. Note the extensive roof glazing. This station was closed to passengers in 1884, but remained in use for goods until 1965. The local coal merchant was still based there in 1976, though his coal was supplied by road. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
