Scope and Content Suspension bridge, Kalemouth, Roxburghshire This is one of the earliest surviving suspension bridges in Scotland, and was designed by Captain Samuel Brown. It has paired round-section suspension chain links and a wooden deck, both early features. It spans the river Teviot. This view shows the bridge from the south west. Note the excellent proportions of the structure, and the unusual pyramidal masonry pylons. This bridge was reconditioned in the early 1990s without alteration to its character. It is in more original condition than Brown's other Border bridge, the Union Bridge at Hutton, near Berwick-upon-Tweed. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
