Scope and Content Former water--powered corn mill, Achafolla, Luing, Argyll This was a small mill on an L-plan, with the kiln in the now-ruinous wing. The main range still contains two pairs of stones with their associated gearing, which were driven by an overshot wheel 0.84 by 4.87, the skeleton of which also survives. This view shows part of the waterwheel. This is a section of one of the rings which formed the sides of the buckets. The curved projections had sheet-iron bolted to them, and there was an iron sheet round the inside of the rings, to complete the buckets. The mill was a cattle shed in 1976, and most of the woodwork had been removed from the interior, leaving the heavy timber frame supporting the millstones. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
