Scope and Content Oban Station, Argyll This station and the adjacent pier were opened in 1880 by the Callander and Oban Railway, to interchange passengers and goods between the railway and steamers serving the west highlands and islands. This view shows the interior of the train-shed with its ridge and furrow glazed roof. The coaches in the distance formed a typical Oban-Glasgow train of the period. The hand trolleys were for luggage and goods to be taken to steamers. This building was demolished in the late 1980s. and replaced by a small brick structure on a site to the right of the former building, The only platforms in use are now those formerly outside the station building.
