Description Photograph Album No 159: WALLACE, SCOTT & CO LTD, CATHCART Black leather album monogrammed on the front in gold "W S & Co.Ltd." with gold lining on front, spine and back, which is supported on four metal studs. The 56 card pages are gilt-edged and hinged with cloth reinforcement, and the end papers are mottled in three colours. The album is in a purpose-made box covered with faded blue cloth, felt-lined. All extremely high quality. 48 of the pages are used for photographs and inscriptions surrounded by fine ink borders, all the views professionally captioned. They show the new factory on the Cart Water built by John Burnet Son & Dick for the philanthropic firm of Wallace, Scott & Co in two stages between 1913 and 1922, illustrating all the facilities both exterior and interior as well as the various processes of the Tailoring Institute. A full list of contractors is given and a site plan, and the pages are interspersed with texts prominently placed in the work rooms. At the end is a water-colour by Harry Hubbard of the building during construction surrounded by "Facts regarding Construction etc".
