Scope and Content Harbour, Fortrose Fortrose began as a settlement belonging to the canons of Fortrose Cathedral. It became a royal burgh in 1590, but in 1691 was said to be still a 'little village'. By the later 19th century, the town was an established holiday resort. The Harbour was built in 1813-17 by Thomas Telford. It had little effect on the town's economy.
