Scope and Content Rodel Harbour, Harris, Inverness-shire This harbour is in the extreme south west of Harris, and consists of two curved breakwater piers enclosing an irregular basin. It is in a naturally sheltered location. There is an inn at the landward end of the north pier. This view shows the harbour from the approach road, with the gable of the inn outbuildings on the right. The sloped end of the south pier is an unusual feature, probably intended for the shipment of cattle. In the days when coastal shipping was more effective than road transport Rodel was significant in the life of Harris, a position reflected not only in the scale of the harbour works, but also in the large late-medieval church here.
