Scope and Content Jenners department store, No 47-52 Princes Street, Edinburgh Late 19th century view of the interior Jenners, on the corner of St David Street, was designed by Sir William Hamilton Beattie in 1893-5. This enormous pink stone building with Renaissance undertones, was, at the time of opening, one of the biggest department stores in Britain. This top-lit galleried open space in the centre of the store, rises through two floors from ground level to the roof. Each gallery has hefty wooden balustrades complete with the thistle motif, and elegant brass electric light fittings. Every Christmas a 20m Christmas tree is brought into the store and erected in this large open space. From the top gallery, it can be admired at treetop level. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
