Scope and Content Clock and brackets, No 28 Rose Street, Edinburgh Rose Street, a narrow street running parallel between George Street and Princes Street, was built in the late 1770s for workers and shopkeepers. Many houses, however, were bought by merchants, professional people and even a few landed gentlemen. This clock, supported by brackets from the front wall of the house, is dated 1892. The smaller, ornate bracket was designed to support a lamp. In the late Georgian period, brackets were used to support lamps, balconies and porches. They were made in cast-iron and were usually scrolled or had foliate patterns. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
