Scope and Content Lerwick Harbour, Shetland Lerwick Harbour was developed from c1817, and more intensively from the mid 19th century, when the Victoria Pier was built as the steamer pier. This was extended in 1883-6, by W Dyce Cay, and again in i957-9. The south pier dates from 1913-15. This view shows fishing boats in the small boat harbour, which is formed by the L-plan south pier and the Victoria Pier. The vessels are lying alongside the south pier. Lerwick Harbour is the best natural harbour in the Shetlands, and has been subject to frequent modification and upgrading since the early 19th century, most recently for the North Sea Oil industry, and for larger fishing craft.
