Scope and Content Mill of Skaill, Orkney This was a two-storey and basement water-powered corn mill, rubble-built, on an L-plan, driven by a low breast wheel, in an open-sided but roofed wheelhouse. One arm of the L was a barn. It was situated on the shore of the Bay of Skaill. This view shows the mill from the south east. The main mill range is ion the left, with the kiln in the taller section, with a hole in the roof where the ventilator would have been. The wheel house is on the far end of the mill range. By 1976 the mill was disused, and the machinery had been removed. It had been demolished by the early 1990s, owing to coastal erosion. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
