Date 1833

Collection Records of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland

Scope and Content Drawing by James Skene of Dunadd, Argyll and Bute The fort at Dunadd was an important centre of power in Dalriada, the Kingdom of the Scots. James Skene's drawing exaggerates the imposing nature of Dunadd's location. Rising steeply from the surrounding valley floor, the rocky crag was once protected by marshland on all sides. Draughtsman and scholar, James Skene (1775-1864) sketched many historic monuments in Scotland and Europe. Skene was an active member of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and a friend of Sir Walter Scott. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
