Scope and Content Detail of decoration of window-shutter in the Tapestry Drawing Room in Inveraray Castle, Argyll and Bute John, 5th Duke of Argyll, inherited the title in 1770, and began to transform the interior of the castle in 1782 in accordance with fashionable taste. There was a strong French influence seen in the tapestry, furniture and carpets installed in the 1780s. The architect Robert Mylne (1733-1814) was responsible for much interior decoration of the castle, including the shutters in the Tapestry Drawing Room. They were painted to Mylne's design by a Frenchman, Irrouard le Girardy. Girardy, who was recorded as also working for the Prince of Wales at Carlton House in the 1780s, painted the panels with floral arabesque designs on the shutters. He also worked on the ceiling of the Tapestry Drawing Room. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
